Cities across Europe continue to face the challenge of creating more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive communities 🌍. As the SDG-BASED project moves into an exciting new phase, partners are strengthening collaboration, refining innovative assessment tools, and preparing for key events that will help bring sustainable urban solutions closer to reality.

Here is an overview of the latest developments and upcoming activities 👇

🌍 Connecting with the European Research Community

The SDG-BASED project will participate in the upcoming CETPartnership Annual Conference, taking place online on 20–21 October. The event brings together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers working on the future of sustainable energy systems across Europe.

The consortium is exploring opportunities to present the project's progress and exchange knowledge with the wider research community, helping to strengthen collaboration and increase the visibility of SDG-BASED results.

🏙️ A New Real-Life Case Study in Bucharest

The project is preparing to expand its practical applications through a new case study in Bucharest.

The proposed initiative focuses on a local food bank that collects donated food, prepares meals, and operates a social canteen serving people in need. Income generated through its activities also supports programmes for children and older adults, creating positive social impacts alongside environmental benefits.

By exploring this initiative, the project aims to better understand how sustainability assessment tools can also capture the social dimension of urban development and community resilience.

🤝 Meeting Again in Bucharest

Project partners will gather in Bucharest on 4–5 November for the next face-to-face consortium meeting.

These meetings play an important role in strengthening collaboration, sharing progress, and planning the next stages of the project. Bringing together researchers and practitioners from different countries helps ensure that ideas, experiences, and solutions continue to evolve through close cooperation.

📊 Advancing the Sustainability Assessment Tool

One of the project's central activities remains the development of the SDG-BASED assessment tool, designed to support cities in evaluating sustainability and energy transition pathways.

Recent work has focused on refining the methodology, improving benchmark values, and collecting feedback from participating cities through dedicated surveys. This collaborative process helps ensure that the tool reflects diverse local contexts while maintaining a common framework that can be applied across Europe.

The next phase will focus on integrating the different components of the tool and preparing it for further testing in real-world case studies.

🌆 From Data to Practical Solutions

Alongside the assessment tool, project partners continue developing simulations that explore different urban scenarios and support evidence-based decision-making.

Current activities include preparing simulations for additional European cities, allowing researchers to better understand how different strategies can contribute to more sustainable, energy-efficient, and resilient urban environments.

By combining data, modelling, and practical case studies, the project is creating knowledge that can support cities in making informed decisions for the future.

🌱 Building Sustainable Cities Together

As the project continues to grow, collaboration remains at the heart of SDG-BASED. Through innovative tools, real-life case studies, and strong partnerships across Europe, the consortium is helping cities better understand how environmental, social, and economic sustainability can work together.

Together, these efforts are contributing to smarter, more resilient, and more inclusive cities for the future. 🌍✨
